Commitment 3: Friends

A friend may be male or female and of any age/generation. The friendship may last a lifetime or just a short period and may redevelop at different times in one’s life. The friendship may be based on schooling, sport, art, work or any other mutual interest. The important point is that friendship normally exists outside the family and is personal to the people involved. It can exist across countries or continents. It is an important bond between two or more people that cuts across all other levels of contact in society.

3.1 Friends are important in creating contacts from a local basis through to continental global links.

3.2 Friends unite in language.

3.3 Friends unite in sport.

3.4 Friends unite in music.

3.5 Friends unite in dance.

3.6 Friends unite in art.

3.7 Friends unite in crafts.

3.8 Friends unite in food and drink.

3.9 Friends unite in correspondence.

3.10 Friendship can extend to villages/towns/cities twinning with locations in other countries and continents. Developed and developing settlements should twin.
